Full Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in Molecular Bacteriology to study protein transport and motility processes through fluorescence imaging in live bacterial cells. You will manage your own research and administrative activities, within the guidelines provided by senior colleagues and be responsible for general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables. You will also contribute to scientific reports and journal articles and contribute to discussions to share research findings with other colleagues.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree, together with relevant experience in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Microbiology, or a related discipline. You must have proven and substantive expertise in quantitative fluorescence microscopy and image analysis in live bacteria as well as commensurate programming skills and expertise in recombinant DNA methodology in bacteria. You will be highly organised and able to work independently and as part of a team, as well as have good communication skills with the ability to present at meetings and write scientific manuscripts.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the European Commission for up to 5 months in the first instance.
The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
