Full Job Description

Join us and use your project management experience to lead the delivery of an interesting and engaging project that will help our customers better understand what we do and how we do it.

We work with doctors, patients, and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care across the UK. We set the standards doctors and those who train them need to meet and help them achieve them. If there are concerns these standards may not be met or that public confidence in doctors may be at risk, we can investigate, and take action if needed.

At present, we're changing. From December 2024 we'll become a multiprofessional regulator, responsible for the professional regulation of doctors, physician associates and anaesthesia associates. Our communications and the terminology we use need to reflect that, and we've been working to prepare for that, producing updated guidelines and assets to be used by all in the organisation in upcoming communications, on our website, in our correspondence, and more.

We now need an experienced project manager to help us implement the changes we need to make.

Your main task would be to lead and deliver a targeted project aimed at helping staff across the organisation change the way we talk about our work. You'd be based in our Communications function, supported by a strong team of peers, but due to the nature of the project you'd also be working closely with a very wide variety of colleagues and departments across the GMC, supporting them to implement new ways of talking about our role and what we do, and monitoring progress and compliance.

You'll be asked to setup and deliver a project involving many different colleagues across the organisation and to do that quickly, so you'll need to join us with previous experience of planning and managing projects (ideally in the area of communications), and a good set of communication and interpersonal skills. Experience of Agile project management methodologies would be a definite advantage.

You will be dealing with complexity, in terms of quantity, variety and level of detail, so you'll need excellent organisation and analytical skills.

You'll be an ambassador for the project, and be responsible for keeping accurate records of progress, actions and decisions, which will require you to make the best use of your writing and presentation skills, as well as your eye for detail, and your diplomatic skills.

We'll also expect you to have a good grounding in equality, diversity and inclusion, and to be able to foster and champion inclusive ways of working, and a fair and supportive work environment.

If this sounds like you, see below for what you can expect.

What we can offer you

You'll be working part of our Communications function - a strong team of professionals always ready to provide advice or lend a hand. At the same time, due to the nature of the role and the task, you'll get to know more about how many other departments and areas work, what they do, and how that contributes to patient safety.

We currently work on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of one day a week in the office - but our modern offices in bustling Spinningfields will always be ready to welcome you more often, if you wish.

More generally, in joining us you'll be part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people, with several excellent benefits, including:

  • 30 days holiday with the option to buy and sell more

  • A generous employer pension contribution of 15%

  • Access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression

  • Hybrid and flexible working

  • Private medical insurance

  • Bike lockers and shower facilities

  • We are also happy to consider a range of flexible working options. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with our policy and with business needs.

    Diversity and inclusion

We recognise the value that lived experience brings, alongside skills and knowledge, and actively encourage those with diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply to work with us. We are committed to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination.

We are also committed to the Disability Confident employer scheme and support the requirements of the Disability Confident interview scheme: if you have a disability and meet the cut-off mark for the essential criteria for this role as outlined in the person specification document, you will be offered an interview.
