Full Job Description

We're looking for an Operations Cyber Engineer who has a background in Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering to be the technical lead within an operational area and to undertake the role of authorising engineer for all disciplines within the permit to work system.

In this role you will help protect the UK's Energy Backbone from Cyber-attacks, be the point of technical escalation and be accountable for the delivery of cyber maintenance of operational technology on the National Transmission System.

As an Operations Cyber Engineer, you'll lead the works to resolve defects and operational risks within your engineering discipline, working 'hands-on' alongside Technicians and Officers in the area.

As an exciting new role, there will be opportunity for develop the scope to achieve the requirements set out in security governance. We will be looking for you to lead in taking the central security policy and developing it in to Local Work Instructions for a wide range of Operational Technology.

You will oversee a team of technicians and officers who will implement the instructions. We will look to you to lead on continuous improvement and efficient use of resources to improve our cyber resilience and deliver real world cyber risk reductions.

To be successful in this role you will have a strong ability to apply logic and problem solving for engineering faults. We are happy to receive applications from people that have a technician background but are wanting to explore the cyber side but also someone who has a strong cyber background to understand more the technician side (supported by the surrounding teams of course).

We recognise that cyber is a quick pace industry and that we need to set you up for success through a defined training plan. Whilst cyber experience is desirable (control systems, PLC's and RTU's) it is not essential as we will be providing National Gas specific training and international cyber standards training.

We will also look for you to support operations and construction with cyber resilience of control systems so you will be externally trained in a specific control system. You will then act as initial point of contact across operations for that system. Examples include, backups, IDS alerts, upgrades etc.

Another duty aligned to this role is that of being the incident controller during planned and emergency situations which includes participation in a standby rota (1 week in every 6) and in an emergency response acting as duty engineer. It's worth noting, your role in this standby rota is managing call outs and being contactable for escalations not to go on site and resolve.
