Full Job Description

Thurrock Councils dedication to tackling environmental crime saw it's environmental enforcement officers named Team of the Year at the Keep Britain Tidy National Awards in February 2020.

Thurrock Council's Environmental Enforcement Team are looking to recruit an innovative and 'can do' Environmental Enforcement Officer to deliver a wide range of enforcement and activities to bring about local improvements for the communities in Thurrock.

In this challenging role you will working collaboratively with internal and external partners to deal with Enviro-crime and Anti-Social Behaviour issues on a ward area basis across the borough, proactively responding to high level customer service demand.

Knowledge of Enforcement is essential including, The Environmental Protection Act and Highways Act, Refuse & Disposal Amenity Act, Clean Neighbourhoods Environment Act, Anti-Social Behaviour Act and the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act, as well as experience and working knowledge of PACE, CPIA, RIPA, and all other relevant codes.

As an Environmental Enforcement Officer, you will be required to have a strong commitment to improving the Borough and the ability to participate and deliver actions to make a difference.

In a busy working environment you will be issuing fixed penalty notices, work on prosecution files to a high standard and attend court as a witness.

You must be enthusiastic, willing to work alone and work well as part of a team with both the commitment and flexibility to your work. Working on your own initiative you will manage your own workload of investigations and enforcement actions together with providing support to our partners.

You must be able to drive and will be expected to walk a significant amount of distance daily.
In this role you would be required to work Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm. This may vary according to operational priorities.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at a standard level is required for this role.
