Full Job Description

Calday Grange Grammar School is looking for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to work with and supervise individuals and/or groups of students under the direction of the teacher. Inclusive of specific individual learning needs, enabling access to learning for all students and assistance and support in classroom.

  • Use skills / training / experience to support students and staff in designated faculty area

  • Supporting food technology and other areas (eg art, textiles and D & T) in the department when required


  • Support for the Teacher:
  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and productive working environment

  • Design, prepare and use equipment / resources / materials

  • Contribute as required to planning and organisation of systems / procedures

  • Responsible for maintaining records, information and data relating to faculty area

  • Promote and ensure the health and safety and good behaviour of students at all times

  • Support for the Curriculum (designated faculty area); As detailed under 'Key Responsibilities'

  • Provide advice and guidance as required within own area of expertise

  • Demonstrate and assist in the safe and effective use of equipment/materials

  • Support agreed work programmes / practical lessons under the guidance of the teacher


  • Support for the school:
  • Monitor and order department supplies, ensuring resources are available for staff and students as required in line with financial procedures

  • Ensure timely preparation and set up of specialist curriculum resources and areas for learning

  • Provide technical support and demonstrations for safe use of specialist equipment and resources, helping students to progress in their learning

  • Maintain department resources, ensuring they are cleaned, stored, or disposed of in accordance with health and safety requirements

  • Promote a safe and healthy environment, maintaining orderly working areas, assisting with assurance checks, and maintaining safety standards

  • Photograph/film, display / publish and store students work as appropriate

  • Assist in the organisation of trips, exhibitions and activities for students and staff

  • Assist with the supervision and welfare of students, contributing to effective behaviour management in school

  • Participate in extracurricular /enrichment activities, such as outings, social activities, and sporting events to enhance learning and engagement

  • Provide administrative support for the department as and where applicable

  • Maintain accurate records using relevant systems in line with policy and records management procedures

  • Attend meetings and undertake duties as required in line with school calendar, sharing expertise and supporting others

  • Provide occasional cover for colleagues in support functions

  • Responsible for updating / maintaining H&S records and documentation to support the department

  • Work with students / teachers / parents to maintain an accurate and up to date record of student requirements including allergies and any specific dietary requirements
