Full Job Description

Here at Dingle Community Primary we're all about 'Learning for Life' through our CARING values, which underpin everything we do: Community, Achievement, Resilience, Independence, Nurture and Growth.

School website: www.dingle.dudley.sch.uk

The governor role is strategic rather than operational. Governors don't get involved with the day to day running of a school, instead supporting and challenging the school's leadership team to drive school improvement. They champion the work the school does.

Our governors come from our local community and in their role they:

  • get to know the school, including visiting the school occasionally during school hours and in agreement with the headteacher, and gaining a good understanding of the school's strengths and weaknesses

  • attend induction training and regular relevant training and development events

  • attend meetings (full governing board meetings and committee meetings) and read all the papers before the meeting

  • act in the best interests of all the pupils of the school

  • behave in a professional manner, as set down in the governing board's code of conduct, including acting in strict confidence

  • Being a school governor is a commitment and a responsibility, but offers you the chance to see first-hand the impact you can make in improving education for children in your community.

This role may be particularly of interest if you have skills in finance or a legal background but we invite applications from anyone who is interested in helping the school be the best it can be - having a diverse group of people on the governing body is vital to ensure that all viewpoints of stakeholders are taken.

Anyone aged over 18 can be a governor and you do not need to be a parent.

All governors will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the desire to support school, education, and have time to contribute to our local community.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children; therefore, the post is subject to medical clearance and an enhanced DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

All applicants must be able to provide documentation to prove their right to work in the UK.

Effective from September 2022, KCSIE states as part of the shortlisting process schools and colleges should consider carrying out on-line searches, as part of the due diligence on shortlisted candidates. This is to determine suitability to work with children and keep them safe. All shortlisted candidates are now subject to an on-line check and if there is anything concerning, then the shortlisted candidate will be asked to comment on it either prior to or at interview.

Top tip when applying - As we've got a new recruitment system the application process has changed a little and we hope you'll like it!

You'll first need to register and create a profile the first time you apply.

Creating your profile will enable you do things such as track your application progress, view emails you've received from us and manage communication preferences, manage your interview bookings and offer information if successful.
