Full Job Description

A new R&D position to design, set up and test development systems for dryer and calibration applications using photonics and other measurement technologies.

Responsibilities will include designing and conducting laser-in-cavity experiments, analysing data while testing a new photonic device. The role requires collaboration with a cross-functional team to integrate photonics into broader metrology systems.

The ideal candidate will have a strong theoretical and experimental background in photonics and excellent problem-solving abilities. This position offers the opportunity to apply specialised knowledge in a practical, industry-focused context.

This position has developed as a result of an Innovate UK development project to investigate methods of improving drying processes in manufacturing.

Responsibilities and Duties:

· Design, assembly and test of photonics sensors

· Research, development and set up of sensor test systems.

· Definition and programming of test profiles

· Data analytics

· Reporting and presentation of performance metrics

· STEM Degree or higher

· High level numeracy and statistics

· Motivated and self sufficient

· Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver

· MS Office, especially Excel

Desirable:

· Academic research or industrial experience would be considered a distinct advantage.

· MATLAB/Python/coding skills - for simulations and prototyping.

· Experience in assembling photonics and electronic devices.

· Experience working in interdisciplinary teams.
