Full Job Description

The Planning Manager supports the business by ensuring effective systems and controls are in place through providing specialist planning, cost management, reporting, change and risk management services.,

  • Work with the Project Teams to convert bid Programmes to Delivery Programmes.

  • Update (or responsible of the updates) of every live project each month with the Project team with Progress against baseline, assisting the team and ensuring that all work is accurately captured within the programme.

  • Work with the Project teams to develop realistic action plans to recover any slippage.

  • Represent the Project or Programme at presentations and meetings as and when required.

  • Have an appreciation of Project Management and construction processes.

  • Develop pre-construction programmes linked to the construction programme and taking into account design and procurement.

  • Produce Logistics and Sequencing diagrams/plans.

  • Produce Programme Commentary and Outline Method Statements.

  • Understand and be able to produce Preliminaries Assessment.

  • Provide ongoing Project Support.

  • Challenge solutions to determine optimum programme durations.

  • Presentation of programme information to directors at bid settlement.

  • Produce (or supervise production) 4D programme.

  • Ensure Implementation the Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies and Targets within the programmes.

  • Comply, as appropriate, with the processes contained within the GT BMS, specially all the procedure related to Planning and Project Controls.

  • Ensure 4Projects is used as document management system.

  • A working knowledge of construction planning through job experience or training

  • Very Good contractual awareness

  • Commercially astute.

  • Understanding of temporary works.

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Good attention to detail

  • Good verbal and written communication.

  • Able to work as part of a project team.

  • Good leadership skills

  • Confidently able to communicate programmes with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Aware of individual Health and Safety responsibilities and adheres to company health and safety policy and procedures

  • Good organisational and negotiation skills

  • Responsible for completing PDRs for all direct reports

  • Ability to prioritise activities in a challenging environment.

  • Able to develop ideas and present them concisely

  • Strong persuasive communication skills in writing, oral and presentations.

  • Ability to relocate if required


  • Technical / Professional Qualifications Required
  • Previous relevant business experience or transferable skills gained in other areas

  • Fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages.

  • Equivalent of Level 3 NVQ or Certificate Level qualification, Degree preferable.

  • Familiar with computer-based planning software: Primavera P6 mandatory, ideally MSP and Asta Powerproject

  • Willingness to undertake relevant professional qualifications

  • Ideally experience of projects across a wide range of civil engineering sectors.

  • Ideally knowledge of different forms of construction methodologies.

  • Ideally construction experience working with a main Contractor.

  • CSCS card.
