Healthcare Assistant (Complex Care)

Ocean Healthcare are looking for an experienced Female Healthcare Assistant to support a woman in Taunton who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, this affects her nerve cells that control voluntary muscles. She is immobile and reliant on carers for all movement, transfers, and repositioning. She is dependent on her moulded seating bespoke motorised wheelchair to move around.

This lady is very articulate, she can make her own choices and make her needs known. She can eat and drink but requires support from her carers to help feed her due to the limited mobility she has in her arms. She requires support from a carer with all her continence, skin integrity and personal care needs. She lives at home with her mum, sister and 5 lap dogs that she is very fond of. She also has indoor birds that will sometimes be let out of enclosures inside the house.

During some shifts, you will be required to attend Bridgewater College as this service user is currently studying there.

You will be working 1:1

The ideal candidate would be a resilient, seasoned carer with a solid understanding of personal care, and experience with moving and handling. Experience with BiPap, Cough Assist and Scoliosis would also be preferred.

You need to be an experienced carer. It is not essential that you have specific experience working with complex needs as you will get all the training you need. You will be trained and supported by our outstanding team of specialists and nurses. This will involve training and shadowing until one of our nurses is happy to sign you off as competent. Training is paid for.

Pay Rates:

• £14.80 p/hr Monday - Thursday


• £15.05 p/hr Friday


• £17.05 p/hr Saturday - Sunday


• £20.05 p/hr Bank Holidays

We offer the option to be paid Weekly or Monthly. Speak to one of our team to find out more.

It's vital that we have staff consistency and so you will be required to pick up a minimum number of shifts. You will be able to pick up more shifts each week if you would like to. Weekday shifts and Weekend shifts are available. Flexibility would be appreciated, but we are willing to consider your personal circumstances if there are days/times you are unable to work.

Full mileage paid from home to this location in Taunton up to a maximum of 20 miles each way.
