Full Job Description

We are a fast-growing retail company dedicated to providing high quality, low priced plants and garden sundries across Devon and Somerset. We continue to expand and increase our turnover, as a result we are recruiting an organised accountant to head up the accounts department and assist within the buying team. This is a key versatile role within a very talented office team who are running the most successful retail garden centre business in the southwest. Full on site training will be provided by our experienced managers offering strong personal development.

The role includes the following duties:

  • Processing petty cash receipts

  • Reconciling the bank account

  • Processing of supplier invoices for approval and payment

  • Preparing and processing our four weekly payroll

  • Processing and auditing our weekly takings

  • Allocating staff uniforms

  • Processing and checking delivery notes / invoices/ etc in preparation of payments

  • Sourcing and purchasing various sundries

  • Collecting data and distributing reports

  • Assisting on a range of issues and supporting all departments within our head office as the lead of the administration team.

  • Experience isn't required but strong computer skills are essential for this role. Applicants also need strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills to ensure that all deadlines are met and that their days are organised. This role is designed to support the business and the directors while providing sickness and holiday cover where appropriate. With the company planning to continue expansion further, this role has plenty of opportunity for growth.

  • Highly organised

  • Very Good I.T. skills / computer experience with great knowledge of excel spread sheets and word documents

  • Good levels of English - both spoken and written

  • Ability to work within a team

  • Ability to time manage and prioritise

  • Previous accounting or EPOS experience is an advantage

    The role would require applicants to work Monday to Friday with occasional shop floor support needed on key trading weekends throughout the year - flexibility to help is an advantage

  • The position is located at our Head office in Newton Abbot (working from home is not suitable for this role)

  • We can offer £12 to £15 per hour with flexibility to work 35 hours to 40 hours per week - exact working hours to be agreed. This equates to £25,000 to £31,000 per year.

  • Holiday is pro rata based on hours worked - approx. 28 days

  • The role will be supported by full on-site training by our experienced head office team
