We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Associate Structural Engineer to join our successful Structures team in Cambridge.

What does the role involve?

As an Associate Structural Engineer, you'll assist the Directors in providing leadership, management and technical quality to the team in the area of Civil and Structural Engineering, Consultancy and Reporting. Providing project direction to ensure technical quality, health and safety management, budget control and timely delivery. This will include providing clients with solid technical advice within the limits of the brief and being responsible for the delivery of a high quality service.

There will be some business development via existing and new clients, you'll act as a Client Relationship Manager, establishing and maintaining a client base and sustainable workload based on agreed targets and use your clients and contacts to generate work for other parts of the business.

Undertaking contract management on all delegated schemes, you'll liaise with clients and their representatives and attend design and site meetings. You'll prepare design solutions and manage the preparation of design calculations and drawings in accordance with the relevant design codes as well preparation of the specification, technical information and reports.

Other aspects of the role will include managing the costs and revenues on projects, complying with CDM regulations, keeping abreast of technical developments in the industry and training and mentoring less experienced Engineers., Sweco UK&I have an internal resourcing team who are responsible for all recruiting activity. We have a Preferred Supplier List of trusted agencies who we work with on those "hard to fill" roles.

We have defined processes for recruitment applications and it is company policy not to accept speculative CVs. Any speculative CVs received into the business (whether to a manager or member of the resourcing team) will become the property of Sweco and the agency will not be eligible for an introductory fee.

Our Preferred Supplier List was reviewed in December 2023 and we are not looking to add any additional agencies. We'll be reviewing the PSL again at the end of 2024 and non-compliance with the above statements could be detrimental to you having the opportunity to be included.

  • Be a qualified Civil or Structural Engineer, chartered or near chartered with the institute of Civil Engineers or Institute of Structural Engineers.

  • Have considerable experience in a comparable role with a bias towards development and project management.

  • Have excellent design skills and be able to competently undertake computer based analysis and have knowledge and understanding of UK codes of practice, Design Standards, Building Regulations and Health and Safety.

  • Be market facing, commercially focused and a positive role model.
